With the price of living on the increase constantly of late more and more of us are looking at ways to save money and cut our utility bills. You are probably aware that since the 1990s we have been able to choose our energy suppliers, before this time it was only British gas that supplied the nation. Now there is choose and with the comparison sites which have cropped up over recent years, they give us the chance to compare gas and electricity prices and switch suppliers easily. But if you are heating your home with a boiler which is over 10 years old the savings you make will be minimal. To really cut your energy bills you need to have a heating system which uses the latest energy efficient technology.
60% of your energy bills go on boilers and heating water, so making sure you have an efficient boiler will make a huge difference. The boilers that are being installed in homes today are a completely different system compared to those that were installed 10 years ago. Today condensing boilers are the most energy efficient boilers on the market. The reason they are so efficient is that compared to older boilers they have a clever extra component; they have a larger and far more efficient heat exchanger than traditional boilers made years ago. They reuse the wasted energy which used to be lost up the flue.
Condensing boilers are a little more expensive but you will get that back from the savings you make within about two years. These types of boilers can easily be run on the current radiators in your home, so there is no need to reinstall the whole piping and heating system. If you have a small home a condensing combi boiler is perfect, they are small so can fit anywhere and you don't need a storage tank for the water. They heat water on command when you turn the tap.
Modern heating systems will also have extremely accurate control panels and thermostats fitted to each radiator. This gives you even more control so you can turn thermostats down on rooms which don't need the same amount of heat and others. With better regulation of the end temperature the more money can be saved.
The cost of insulation is not as much as you might think. With government grants and discounts from installers now is a good time to get a new modern boiler installed in your home. It may only just be summer in the UK, but the longest day of summer has gone so now it's just a countdown until the clocks go back which is the time most of us start using our heating constantly.
